The Garganey

The Garganey is an under appreciated bird in waterfowl collections. The broad white eyebrow and striking gray flanks make a fine accompaniment to their animated cricket-like vocalization, giving them the proper nickname of “cricket duck”. They are small, unobtrusive duck, getting on well with other waterfowl in a mixed aviary. They have a wide range, breeding throughout much of Europe and winter in Africa and India, making them a perfect addition to specific several geographically themed aviaries. Our flock of Garganey are one of the most interesting and fun to observe and are in top form right now!

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year.
