Steller’s Eiders

Young Steller’s eiders, hatched in 2023. They are doing great and are loving this cold weather we are currently facing. Steller’s eiders have behavioral and morphological similarities to dabbling ducks. Here at Pinola, we observe these birds more often than not dabbling on the water surface, probing in rock crevices at the water’s edge, and tipping upside down, feeding in shallow depths of their pools.
